2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana still tops group E after goalless draw against Madagascar
The Senior National Team, the Black Stars have failed in their bid to secure an early qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a goalless draw against Madagascar on Sunday afternoon.
The Black Stars did not exhibit the usual creativity and failed to score in Madagascar. No clear cup chances were created.
The fate of the Ghana Black Stars is now hanged on the final match against Central African Republic in September. A win in the final match will confirm Ghana participation in next year’s AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars still top the group with 9 points, just a point ahead of Angola. Chris Hughton’s side have played five matches, where they have picked two wins and three draws.
The Ghana National team is looking to break the AFCON trophy-less spell since 1982.
Below are the results of group E matches played over the weekend:
Central African Republic 1-2 Angola
Madagascar 0-0 Ghana
Table
1. Ghana 9 points
2. Angola 8 points
3. CAR 7 points
4. Madagascar 2 points
