2022 Athletics: Northern Regional Sports Authority completes Regional cross-country screening exercise

The Northern Regional Sports Committee has completed the Regional Cross-country screening exercise at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

 

The exercise is to select athletes for the 4th edition of the National cross-country event slated for 17th February 2022 in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Northern Region is expected to present twelve (12) athletes for the national event, six female and six male.

The Regional selection committee identified seven athletes for each category which include one standby athlete. In the female category, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th came from the Mion District with the 3rd person from UDS.

The Northern Regional Sports Director, Madam Salamatu Alhassan urge the selected athletes to continue training in order to make the region proud. She indicated that prizes are are at stake and all the athletes must endeavor to work hard to pick the award.

 

The national cross-country was first held in 2019 and this year’s event is expected to host 190 athletes from the 16 regions. This year’s event is to serve as a build-up to the 2023 All African games to be hosted in Ghana.

 

Ghana host the African games for the first time after being awarded the multi-sports events back in 2018. Ghana becomes the 10th county to stage the event and 2023 event being the 13th edition.
